Research Interests

Her research interests are mainly focused in video coding where she conducted research on topics such as: parallel video coding, video transcoding with emphasis on Cloud related implementations and optimizations, Rate-Distortion optimization, Scalable Video Coding (SVC), hardware implementations of video codec and motion estimation algorithms. Other research interests include: video transmission, resource optimization in distributed systems with a focus on Cloud provisioning for video coding and delivery, applications of Kalman filters and cell placement and optimization problems in VLSI design. Dr. Maria Koziri has published more than 40 papers, many of them in flagship journals and conferences of Video Technology such as: IEEE TCE, ICIP, ICME.

Dr. Maria Koziri received her Diploma in Computer and Electrical Eng. from the Technical Univ. of Crete (TUC) in 2003 and a PhD in Computer Science from Univ. of Thessaly (UTH) in 2007 under the co-supervision of Prof. George Stanoulis and Dr. Ioannis Katsavounidis (now Sr. Research Scientist in Facebook, Inc.). From 2009 to 2016 she was a Post-Doc Student in Univ. of Athens (UoA) under the supervision of Dr. Alex Eleftheriadis (Chief Scientist & Co-Founder of Vidyo, Inc.). Between 2004 and 2017 she has worked as a Visiting Lecturer for Univ. of Thessaly (UTH) and Technological Educational Institute of Central Greece (TEICG). Since 2017 she serves as an Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Computer Science in Univ. of Thessaly (UTH).

Dr. Maria Koziri has gained significant experience from several research projects on video coding, video streaming, sensor networks and integrated circuit design for signal processing. Indicatively, in SeNSE (COOPERATION 2011, 2014-15) she participated in the architecture design of a system consisted of audio-video sensor networks for densely sampling and replaying events. She also investigated issues related to real time video coding and streaming. In the ENFORCE project (Open Call, 2017) she took part in the evaluation process of the SoftFIRE Cloud platform, were the experiments conducted concerned video streaming using Cloud resources with QoS guarantees. In 2010 Dr. Maria Koziri, in the framework of Avid-Mode (FP7-Marie Curie Actions) served as a visiting researcher in Cidana (Shanghai) Co. Ltd where she performed a comparative study between H.264 and VP8 coding standards. In 2007 she coordinated the research program “Porting OpenAVS in Tensilica’s Diamond 388VDO platform and documentation creation” funded by Tensilica Inc.
